Sustainability Analyst

Fairfax County's Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) seeks a Sustainability Analyst who is highly motivated, has strong analytical skills, brings enthusiasm, and has direct sustainability or solid waste expertise. This position leads agency projects to support sustainability, waste reduction, and waste diversion. They gather, analyze, and report on large data sets that help further SWMP policies and goals. The position provides research and analysis to help residents and businesses improve their waste reduction and diversion practices.

Responsibilities include:

• Under the direct supervision of the Sustainability Program Manager, this position oversees the Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) outreach and sustainability efforts.
• Coordinates the development and implementation of sustainability programs within SWMP that focus on waste reduction, diversion, and education/outreach.
• Develops new and innovative projects and strategies to transition existing projects towards sustainable programs.
• Oversees the planning, execution, and monitoring of sustainability projects and programs and ensures they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Coordinates with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability initiatives across the organization, as well as presents data-driven recommendations to support sustainability goals and drive strategic decision-making.
• Develops and implements data collection protocols to gather relevant sustainability metrics and conducts in-depth analysis to identify trends, correlations, and areas for improvement.
• Responsible for proper and timely coordination, presentations, and communication of program-related matters with stakeholders.
• Engages in safe working practices and complies with SWMP safety programs and guidelines. Acts as an advocate and ensures that proper safety protocols are followed when performing tasks. Complies with the DPWES Safety Competencies.
• Responsible for following all applicable procurement policies and procedures.

Note: The assigned functional areas for this position include Environmental Sustainability and Solid Waste Management.
