The Environmental Consultant I is responsible for providing environmental services during emergency responses and other projects. They will work closely with clients and regulators to evaluate environmental concerns and identify data, documentation, and advisory needs. They may serve as Technical Specialist, Field Coordinator, Laboratory Coordinator, or Field Lead, providing technical advice and ensuring quality data and reporting. They will train and coach field personnel, support internal training and equipment maintenance, and assist in client preparedness activities, including training and exercises. The role involves on-call duties, extended travel, and working in diverse environments. Job Type: Full Time Location: Flexible Activities/Tasks/Scope Perform as an environmental consultant during responses and projects, possibly acting as a Project Manager. Coordinate closely with clients and agency personnel during responses. Prepare work plans and ensure their implementation in the field. Identify resources needed for projects and coordinate logistics. Ensure high-quality, timely data deliverables in collaboration with project teams. Support internal preparedness through training, equipment management, and documentation development. Provide technical consulting and training to clients. Maintain response readiness as part of the on-call team and respond to high-profile incidents. Support Emergency Response Division activities to ensure staffing, training, and response readiness. Maintain compliance with environmental, health, and safety policies and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned. Education, Experience, & Credentials Required: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, geology, or related field, plus at least two years of field experience. Preferred: Master’s degree in related science. Required: Advanced computer skills in Windows. Preferred: Project management experience, emergency response experience, recognized certifications (CES, REM, CEP, CHMM). Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to work within a matrix organization and recognize organizational value. Strong communication skills in English. Problem-solving and data analysis skills. Organizational skills and attention to detail. HAZWOPER certification, ability to obtain DISA and TWIC clearances, valid driver’s license, and passport. Ability to work in hazardous conditions, make decisions in emergencies. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work may be indoors or outdoors, in extreme weather, hazardous environments, and involve extended travel and long hours. Physical demands include lifting, bending, climbing, and operating in challenging conditions.
