Position Summary

The Butcher / Seafood Counter Associate is responsible for preparing, cutting, and packaging meat and seafood products while delivering outstanding customer service. This role includes maintaining department cleanliness, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and maximizing sales through proper rotation, display, and merchandising techniques. Ideal candidates are dependable, detail-oriented, and passionate about quality and service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cut, trim, prepare, and package meat and seafood products according to company standards.
  • Perform quality inspections to ensure freshness and compliance with food safety guidelines.
  • Greet and assist customers with selections, providing recommendations and specific cuts upon request.
  • Estimate inventory needs, order supplies, and confirm deliveries with vendors.
  • Follow all sanitation, Weights and Measures, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain organized product displays and ensure accurate signage and pricing.
  • Clean tools, equipment, and work areas regularly.
  • Support and mentor meat cutter trainees when assigned.
  • Perform opening, mid-shift, and closing duties as required.
  • Assist in other departments or locations as directed by management.

  • Meat and seafood cuts, handling, and storage standards; food safety, sanitation, and merchandising procedures.
  • Knife handling and cutting techniques; weighing, labeling, and pricing; communication and customer service; time management and organization.
  • Attention to detail; ability to plan orders and estimate quantities; physical stamina for lifting and working on feet; ability to adapt in fast-paced environments.
  • Reliable, punctual, and customer-focused; maintains cleanliness and professionalism; demonstrates teamwork, integrity, and pride in work.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of previous butcher/meat cutter experience
  • Excellent understanding of various meat-cutting methods
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Must be able to deal with quality control, production control, meat, and fish storing

Physical Requirements: 

  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as required
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing 10–30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds regularly (or occasionally).
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the store. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment, and climb steps regularly
